Albany is a tiny community of 55 residents, located in Albany County in the southeastern part of the state. It's not far from the cities of Laramie and Cheyenne. Albany is mostly known for being home to a world class lodge that sits at the base of the Snowy Range Mountains. The mountains rise to 12,000 feet and not only provide a gorgeous backdrop, but offer year round recreational activities. Summer activities include mountain biking, hiking, fly fishing and hunting. Winter offers opportunities for snowmobiling, ice fishing, skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing. If you want more culture, a day trip takes you to Cheyenne, where you'll find fine restaurants, shopping, museums and theater. Cheyenne's Civic Center is host to the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra, and Downtown Cheyenne's Depot Plaza is home to a summer Farmer's Market and more. In July, the city is also host to the Cheyenne Frontier DaysTM, called the "Daddy of 'em All," rodeos - the largest in the U.S.A. Nearby Laramie is host to Jubilee Days, always held in July around Independence Day. Laramie also offers several museums and historic sites, including their downtown historic district.

Albany Weather & Climate

Southeastern Wyoming has a semi-arid climate with long, cold, dry winters and short, warm, wet summers. Unlike states further east, the most snowfall is received in March and April, with an average of 60 inches in the higher elevations. Thick snow cover rarely lasts long, however. Summer temperatures are warm during the day, but often cools down rapidly at night. Spring and autumn are quick transition months. The annual precipitation tends to be concentrated from May to August and is low during fall and winter. This region averages 2980 hours of sunshine per year. Occasional hailstorms are the most destructive type of storm in Wyoming. Tornadoes are possible, but rare.
