Star-Valley
is a grassland valley in western Wyoming, surrounded by forested mountains. It lies between the Salt River Range in western Wyoming and the Webster Range of eastern Idaho. The altitude of Star Valley ranges from 5,600 feet to 7,000 feet. There are three major rivers in Star Valley; the Salt River, the Greys River and the Snake River meet near Alpine Junction at Palisades Reservoir. Some of the towns located in Star Valley include Afton, Bedford, Etna, Smoot, Fairview, Osmond, Grover, Auburn, Alpine, Nordic, Turnerville and Star Valley Ranch. Settled in the late 1870s by Mormon pioneers, Star Valley is said to have been named by a general authority of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for its' spectacular natural beauty (actually proclaimed "Star of All Valleys.") Star Valley is a marvelous place to vacation for the whole family. Aside from the stunning scenery, there's tons of recreational activities in the area; fishing, river rafting, boating, golf, hiking, mountain biking, swimming, scenic drives, wildlife viewing and superb photographic opportunities. Star Valley Ranch Resort is located in the area and also offers a swimming pool, barbecue facilities, golf, bumper boats, tennis courts, horseshoes, a playground, basketball courts and a clubhouse. A general store and laundry facilities are also located at Star Valley Ranch Resort.

Star Valley Weather & Climate

West-central Wyoming, on the Idaho border , the overall climate is relatively cool, due to its' elevation. Summers are warm during the day, but summer nights are almost invariably cool. Temperatures depend on the elevation, with the mountains and high valleys being much cooler with average lows in the middle of the summer in the 30s and 40s, with occasional drops below freezing. Lower elevations have lows in the 50s and 60s. In the wintertime it's normal to have rapid and frequent changes between mild and cold spells. The sun shines in Wyoming 60 percent of the time in the winter to about 75 percent during the summer. Precipitation ranges from 7 to 10 inches per year.
